I probably teeter on the edge of being an Apple fanboy. Since the original iPhone I’ve waited hours in lines for iPhones just so I could have them on the first day. I’ve gone through too many MacBook Pros, Mac Pros and iMacs to count. I wear my AirPods at least half of every day… even though they fall out of my ears. I enthusiastically use Apple’s products and their mice have been no exception. I use them and I love them.

They’ve never hurt my wrist, which I know is a common complaint. The latest iteration Magic Mouse has great gestures I make use of constantly and the battery life seems exceptional. So when I started getting back into 3D work and game development I resisted the advice of nearly everyone to go out and get a 3-button mouse. Surely nothing out there could beat my Magic Mouse, right?

I’ve spent about 30 minutes with a new Logitech MX Master 3 and honestly, I feel a little stupid. It’s a better mouse for what I need. I wouldn’t even compare the two, honestly. The Magic Mouse is fantastic. It just does fewer things. It has no middle mouse button. Having a plethora of assignable buttons that can be application-specific is a tremendous boon to productivity. I should have switched earlier.

I’m probably going to spend a half-day tweaking things for each application I use. It’ll be worth it in the end. I’ll obviously have to wait to see if the mouse holds up over time, but as of this moment I’ve certainly upgraded.
